Anakbayan Film Screening and Art

Anakbayan BC invites curious Filipinos to come watch this documentary with us as we approach the Martial Law anniversary on Sept 21st. In this event, we will discuss the legacy of Marcos Sr's regime and his implementation of Martial Law, reflect on the ramifications of historical revisionism, and connect these findings to current-day Philippine society under the Marcos regime.

“The Kingmaker” showcases the political life of Imelda Marcos as First Lady to former dictator Ferdinand Marcos. We will discuss how she spread a false narrative that erased the truth of Martial Law, and how this aided in placing her son as the new Philippine president and reestablishing their political dynasty.

Alongside the movie screening, we will have a print making workshop. There will be premade print designs available to stamp on your own tote bag or shirt from home. We also have blank tote bags for sale ($20) if you don’t have any at home 🛍️🎨 Through collective art, we encourage you to express your insights on historical revisionism and its lasting effects on the Filipino people.
