ABOUT THE TRIP - This May, Solid State staff and cohort members are going on a professional development trip to visit the Mondragon Cooperative. Mondragon is located in the Basque region of Spain, and is one of the largest and most well-known cooperative networks in the world.
Through a three-day intensive series of tours, workshops and lectures, we will get to see firsthand how various Mondragon-affiliated organizations operate, challenges they have faced, and their ideas for the future. Understanding the cooperative world on an international level is an important milestone for our community and this trip will be a great step in understanding how our work at Solid State is building a solidarity economy for racialized and migrant communities in Surrey. Visiting Mondragon aligns with the Solid State mission to continue to establish resource hubs regionally, nationally, and internationally, and to learn about cooperative building at scale.
ABOUT THE EVENT - Structured as an open mic and jam with select artists, this event will be a fun way to meet Solid Staters, support our work, and experience some amazing music and food. There will be a community marketplace set up where we'll be selling art and merch to help raise funds as well!
